Nigel: The proposal was a two-fold surprise, I had won a Great Eastern SG50 Wishes contest and they helped planned the proposal! The day started with an unforgettable spa and massage at Capella Singapore, and while we went for dinner at Quayside Isle, my friends and the crew decorated a suite with fairy lights, balloons, flower petals, and our photographs.ĭanielle: With Ed Shereen crooning in the background, Nigel made 10 promises before choking back tears and going down on one knee, presenting me with the ring, and proposing. And as for our 9-month old daughter (our honeymoon baby!), let’s just say that Danielle’s “never say die” attitude helped the baby become so well adjusted to daily routines! What more can I hope for? Well, maybe a second child soon! For instance, although I’m the cook in the family, Danielle still strives to improve her cooking skills, especially for the dishes I love. Her attitude of self improvement is driven by her passion in her job and boundless love for our family. Nigel: What I love most about Danielle is her desire to always be better, whether it is at work, as a wife, or mother. He is a man for others and many a time I have witnessed him helping out friends and strangers alike, in small and big ways. Most importantly, and what I love the most about him, is his big heart. To name a few examples, he is smart (first class honours NTU graduate!), and athletic (50 of the countless medals and trophies from his track and field days sit in the medal cabinet on our living room feature wall). When I got to know him for myself, I realised he was nothing short of amazing. Also in 2020, we received two Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards (CARA) our song “Kamikazee” won Best Female Collegiate Song and was runner up for Best Female Collegiate Arrangement. What drew you to each other and what do you love most about your partner?ĭanielle: What attracted me to Nigel was how he affected a dapper image, and in no time, people around were singing his praises. At the 2020 ICCA Great Lakes Quarterfinals, we were awarded “Outstanding Arrangement”. Our music has been featured in the Best of Collegiate A Cappella (BOCA), Voices Only, and Women’s A Cappella Association (WACA) compilations. We perform at a variety of events, including Bar Mitzvahs and proposals, and we serenade our campus with singing valentines every February. Most recently, we have released a full-length album, Ampersand, in 2017 and an ep, Let Me, in 2019. As a group, we compete in the ICCAs every other year and record music as often as possible. Though our name suggests otherwise, identifying as a woman is not necessary to sing with us.Īll of our songs are arranged by members, past and present. We pride ourselves on telling stories through our music and spreading UDub love every chance we get. We are an extremely close-knit group of students who study everything from Theater to Molecular Engineering and are brought together by our love of singing. Founded in 1989, Unaccompanied Women is the oldest a cappella group at the University of Chicago.
